  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Submissions section, which is found in About the Journal.

Author Guidelines

For all submissions with or without illustrations, contributors must submit their contribution formatted ready for publication using the Microsoft Word template provided. When using the template the embedded styles must be used e.g. Heading 1,2,3, Quotation, Caption etc.

Any images should also be embedded in the document in the desired location.   Please also supply one image to be used as a header image for the website.

Two versions of the template must be submitted.

  1. A complete version with all relevant sections and headings
  2. A version of 1. with no author or affiliation information, suitable for blind peer review

Please name your files in the following manner:  surname_forename-call-date-full.docx and surname_forename-call-date-blind.docx  e.g. doe_jane-presence-2020-full.docx

With Microsoft Office documents, author identification should also be removed from the properties for the file (see under File in Word), by clicking on the following, beginning with File on the main menu of the Microsoft application: File > Save As > Tools (or Options with a Mac) > Security > Remove personal information from file properties on save > Save

Please note, submissions that do not adhere to these requirements will be returned unpublished.

The following general guidelines apply to all submissions:

Title: Titles for submissions are mandatory

Biographical Information: You must provide the names, affiliations and email addresses for all authors.

Abstact: Abstracts of 150-250 words must be provided.

Keywords: Please provide 3-5 keywords when submitting your work.

Formatting: The embedded styles within the supplied template must be used for all formatting.  Please do not change font types, or size directly.

Footnotes, Endnotes, References and Bibliographies: Footnotes should be used sparingly and numbered consecutively through the article. References should conform to the Harvard style.  Footnotes should not be used for references. The Harvard reference style does vary and we are happy to accept any consistent format.  Endnotes and Bibliographies are not accepted.

Permissions: It is the responsibility of contributors to obtain the necessary permissions for reproducing work other than their own.

Images: It is in the author's interest to provide high quality figures. Figures must be included in the correct locations in submissions using the template provided.  All figures must be numbered in the order in which they appear in the paper (e.g. Figure 1, Figure 2). In multi-part figures, each part should be labelled (e.g. Figure 1(a), Figure 1(b)).  Figure captions should appear in the appropriate location in the template.
