Craft Design Technology in the Primary School: Let's Keep it Primary*
Abstract
The obvious answer must be that it depends on the name! Take 'Craft Design Technology'. Among teachers this title conjures up a wide range of impressions ... and prejudices. Now link 'CDT' with primary education - particularly across the Infant years - and you will certainly provoke from primary teachers some interesting responses. Many teachers will state that they do not know what CDT really means. They will point out, however, that CDT 'sounds' very secondary ... very maleorientated; that it must be a highly specialist subject that requires extensive, 'hi-tech' resources.
