Design Evaluation: Beyond Likes and Dislikes

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to explore the place of product evaluation within design and technology education in Scotland. It discusses the potential impact of the National Guidelines for 5-14 Environmental Studies Technology' framework on the pupil learning experiences. The programmes of work which meet the guidelines are those that encourage exploration of the influences and factors which a designer has to consider and the advantages and disadvantages of applications of technology on a range of user groups, environments and cultures. The place of evaluation in post-14 technology courses is also discussed.
